Benefits of Bicycling

Summer is a great time to try out some new forms of physical activity – or participate in some of your favorite ones again! Whichever may be the case for you, bicycling regularly can be a fun (and cheap!) activity to engage in. It provides a low impact workout, is accessible to all ages, and also comes with many health benefits.

Given the aerobic nature of bicycling, you’re actually giving a workout to multiple parts of your body all at once – your heart, blood vessels, and lungs. This makes for an even greater abundance of overall health benefits, particularly when it comes to improving your cardiovascular health. You’ll also likely find improvements resulting from bicycling when it comes to strengthening your bones and muscles, decreasing your body fat, and lessening stress. (And that’s just listing a few benefits!)

Bicycling can also benefit the environment in numerous ways. If you have the ability to make bicycling a part of your daily commute instead of driving (even if it’s just a couple days a week and not the entire week), you’re contributing to less cars being out on the road and less carbon dioxide emissions. Maybe biking to work isn’t necessarily feasible, but you’re able to bike instead of drive to complete some of your in-town errands that are located nearby. Every little bit helps!
