Winter holidays are quickly approaching! Take a look at these decorating safety tips from The National Safety Council as you gear up for the holiday season.
Check that your artificial tree is labeled "fire resistant"
Keep potentially poisonous plants like mistletoe, holly berries, etc., away from children and pets
Turn off lights and decorations when leaving your home or sleeping
Replace light sets that are broken or cracked, have damaged wires, or loose connections
Place your tree at least 3 feet away from heat sources like fireplaces and radiators
Make sure not to stress wiring when hanging decorative lights and keep plugs away from water sources
Avoid placing smaller, more breakable ornaments on lower tree branches where they may be more easily accessible to small children
Choose the correct ladder when hanging lights, whether using them for outdoor or indoor decorating purposes
