National Nurse Practitioner (NP) Week is November 13 - 19, 2022. This important week is recognized annually and offers plenty of opportunity to bring awareness to the NP profession and recognize the crucial role that these healthcare professionals play across the country in meeting patient needs.
Of the more than 355,000 licensed NPs in the United States, 88.9% of them are certified in an area of primary care according to the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). In rural areas in particular, NPs can play an important role in bridging the healthcare divide in areas where access to quality care may otherwise be limited. NPs may be certified in a wide variety of areas, including family medicine, psychiatric/mental health, women's health, and more.
Nurse practitioners can not only assess patients (sometimes upwards of three or more per hour!), they can advise on healthier lifestyle choices and disease prevention strategies, order and interpret diagnostic tests, and prescribe medications or other treatments.
